The Lower Silesian Sports Center is now open!

It is a paradise for biathletes and cross-country skiers.

The Lower Silesian Sports Center is the most modern biathlon and cross-country skiing center in Poland and Europe, located in a unique place where snow remains for up to 150 days a year. Today the facility began its operations.

There has not yet been such a sports investment in Lower Silesia. A modern stadium and a biathlon shooting range were built on the Jakuszycka Glade - Polana Jakuszycka. More than 90 km of competitive and recreational cross-country skiing trails are available here, as well as soccer fields, a swimming pool and a climbing wall. The center will be used by everyone, both professional athletes and national teams, as well as amateurs.

It is worth recalling that the function of Project Manager on the construction of this modern center was performed by Miastoprojekt.

- The construction of the Lower Silesian Sports Center on the Jakuszycka Glade - Polana Jakuszycka is the largest sports infrastructure investment in the history of Lower Silesia. We have kept our word to the region's residents and are giving them a unique place where they will be able to practice sports all year round using state-of-the-art spaces and equipment. It is a facility available to both professional athletes and amateurs. The DCS will also host sports events of international rank, which will have an impact on even better recognition of Lower Silesia and the development of sports and tourism in our region," says Cezary Przybylski, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Province.

The creation of the Sports Center on the Jakuszycka Glade - Polana Jakuszycka was possible thanks to very good cooperation between the provincial government and the government.

- This is a great investment. Here in the south of Lower Silesia it will be possible to combine something that we all love the most, that is, sports combined with tourist attractions with accessibility for amateurs and professionals. I am very pleased that we will be able to develop our excellent talents and use this center to make future generations of athletes enjoy their successes," says Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister.

Plenty of attractions and innovations

The Lower Silesian Sports Center is a paradise for sports all year round. Importantly, you don't have to buy all the equipment you need right away. There will be large ski and bike rentals on the Jakuszycka Glade. There are parking lots for buses and several hundred cars at the DCS. The Jakuszycka Glade will be reached by trains of the Lower Silesian Railway, which will stop directly at the resort. Among other facilities, the building will include a swimming pool, a wellness center with a gym, saunas and a brine graduation tower, a gymnasium with a climbing wall, a hotel and hostel with 200 seats, locker rooms, conference and catering facilities. A hypoxia system has been installed in the gyms and some of the sleeping quarters to regulate oxygen levels and simulate high mountain conditions, for example. The facility will also include specialized trainers for cross-country skiing in classic technique and skate step.

- The Lower Silesian Sports Center on the Jakuszycka Glade - Polana Jakuszycka is one of our flagship sports investments. The year-round, multifunctional facility was built with professional and amateur athletes in mind," explains Tymoteusz Myrda, Member of the Lower Silesian Voivodship Board. - This is the most modern place of its kind in Europe, thanks to the Incubator, where athletes and climbers will be able to prepare for the difficult climatic conditions they will face during their expeditions. Everyone will find excellent conditions for outdoor sports all year round, he adds.

Arena to host world-class competitions

DCS managers have already approached national sports associations, in particular the Polish Ski Association and the Polish Biathlon Association, to begin efforts to organize top-ranking competitions here.

- Cross-country trails and a biathlon shooting range have been built in close cooperation with the International Ski Federation and the International Biathlon Union, so that World Cup-level competitions can be held here. As early as January 2024, the European Junior Biathlon Championships are planned to be held here. International events are a big promotion for the region, it will contribute to increasing the number of visitors," says Joanna Badacz, president of the Polish Biathlon Association.

- Today we have a facility that can be envied by the whole world. That's why I'm glad that there are people who are walking, even trotting for such facilities to be built and for the sport to develop all the time. I think that both I and your president will really make every effort to make it develop even more, and that our young people climb to world levels all the time," says Adam Malysz, President of the Polish Ski Association.

Various important sports events have been organized on the Jakuszycka Glade - Polana Jakuszycka for almost half a century. For more than 40 years, the largest and oldest skiing event in Poland, the Bieg Piastów, has been held here. Every year it is attended by up to 10 thousand competitors from different countries. The Junior World Championships and the Polish Championships in cross-country skiing and biathlon, dog sled competitions, orienteering, and cycling and cross-country skiing competitions in summer and autumn have also been held here many times.

Modern Center in a unique location

The Jakuszycka Glade is a unique place due to its microclimate. It is located at an altitude of 886 meters above sea level, but conditions here are similar to those found even twice as high. There is snow on the Glade even about 150 days a year. So it would be difficult to find a better place to build a winter sports center.

For thousands of tourists a year, the Jakuszycka Glade is also the start and finish of much-loved hiking, skiing or biking trips. Amateurs of contact with nature come here in large numbers throughout the year.

The specific microclimate prevailing on Jakuszycka Glade - Polana Jakuszycka is a result of the location of this place at the meeting point of two atmospheric fronts: The Azores Gypsum and the Greenland Low. The area also belongs to the European watershed separating the basins of the Elbe and the Oder, as well as the drainage basins of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. It separates the Giant Mountains from the Jizera Mountains.
